20 years ago this October, Jouyssance’s beloved artistic director conducted her first concert with the Ensemble. In celebration of this anniversary, Dr. Baker has picked a program of her (and probably your) favorites: Tallis’ Loquebantur, Palestrina’s Exultate Deo, and beautiful pieces by Josquin, Cardoso, Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Machaut, Brumel and others. We’ll also feature excerpts from a work that was on her first program: Lasso’s mysterious Prophetiae Sibyllarum

A Pilgrimage in Song: Canterbury Tales on the Road

In honor of Early Music Month, Jouyssance once again presents free concerts around the Los Angeles area.  This year we will present a refresh of our hit program from last season, The Canterbury Tales: A Pilgrimage in Song, in Claremont and Tarzana.  Love, laughter, lessons and stories abound in this narrative program featuring a variety of sacred, secular and sometimes bawdy early choral music.  Works by composers such as Lasso, Dunstable, Fayrfax and Power help illustrate Chaucer's memorable tales.
