Welcome to a Jouyssance season like no other!

This year we’re approaching the idea of a “season” a little bit differently. While live performances are temporarily off the agenda for us, we are excited to create a variety of online musical experiences for our community during our 2020-21 Virtual Season. These events will include more virtual chorus videos, free Early Music Virtual Community Singalongs open to all singers, and live-streamed online concerts.

Online Community Singalong and Social Hour

Sunday, October 25 at 4 p.m.
Registration required.
Suggested donation: $5

Join members of Jouyssance on Zoom as we sing (and play) together at home! Artistic Director Nicole Baker will lead singers in “singing along” to Palestrina’s Missa Brevis and Thomas Tallis’ Nine Tunes for Archbishop Parker’s Psalter. (Instrumentalists are welcome to play along as well!) Many aspects of this experience will be similar to an in-person Jouyssance event: Dr. Baker will provide historical information and performance coaching with her signature energy and wit, there will be opportunities for socializing, and you will see all your fellow singers singing with you in that ever-present Zoom video grid. What will be different this year? In order to get around the limitations of Zoom audio, we will be singing along to recordings of our classic works and all singers will be on “mute” during the singalong portion. Please register in order to receive downloadable scores and a Zoom link.

Online Community Caroling and Social Hour

Sunday, December 20 at 4 p.m.
Registration required.

Join us on Zoom for holiday carols and festivities! Sing familiar holiday hits and rarities from the Medieval, Renaissance and early Baroque eras, with commentary and chat from Dr. Nicole Baker.

Songs of Courts and Convents

Jouyssance Early Music Ensemble celebrates the gorgeous and varied vocal works written by women composers of the Medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque eras. In addition to selections by the well-known madrigalist Maddalena Cassulana, Jouyssance will perform works by Francesca Caccini, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Isabella Leonarda, Raphaella Aleotti, Kassia, and many more. This video program consists entirely of newly recorded performances including solos, small groups, and chamber choral works, with and without instrumental accompaniment.

This concert is sponsored in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
